Port of Pozzallo

This is the largest commercial port and tourist center of the province of Ragusa.

It is located in the southern part of eastern Sicily, only fifty miles from the island of Malta, and in the heart of the Mediterranean, at the center of the main routes between the Strait of Gibraltar and the countries of North Africa and the Middle East.

The commercial harbor is formed by a breakwater of 1645 meters. The port, which has depths of 7 to 10 meters has also a good storage capacity.

The port was built to satisfy the needs of the US base of Comiso (now closed and transformed in an Airport). The principal activities are fast ferry connection with Malta and break bulk cargo such as granite, polyethylene, containers, fertilizers.
Just north of the commercial port it is possible to find a small port protected by two piers that is used by fishing boats, pleasure craft and small boats with a maximum draft of 3.5 meters.
